GPS art of a dragon drawn at one of Akita’s most popular Hatsumode spot🐉✨
This GPS art course allows visitors to draw the Chinese character for “dragon (龍),” the animal of the Chinese zodiac, around Ishiryujinja Shrine, a Hatsumode (New Year’s visit) spot in Akita Prefecture that is associated with dragons.
The origin of Ishiryu-jinja Shrine in Akita City dates back to 1731, when Sosuke enshrined a stone dragon that he obtained in Yuzawa in a request to the clan. The area around the shrine is called Nezasayama Kofun, and some believe that the shrine was made from a sarcophagus from the burial mound.
Since Hakuryu Shrine (Hakuryu Jinja) is also located nearby, we recommend that you visit the shrine as a set.
Since 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, Shiryujinja may become a popular Hatsumode spot. Please try it as a Hatsumode to avoid the density 🐉✨.
