🌸 Flowers of Expo ’90: A 13km Sakura course via Tsurumi Ryokuchi 🌸
Welcome to Tsurumi-ku, Osaka, a district named after a legend where samurai Shogun Minamoto no Yoritomo once stood to “view cranes” (Tsuru-mi) in its ancient marshlands. This 13km GPS art course invites you to celebrate this botanical city by sketching a grand Sakura across its landscape, centered around the historic Kongoji Temple and the iconic Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park.
The route navigates vibrant local neighborhoods connected by Morishōji Station, Shimmori-Furuichi Station, and Shimizu Station. As you trace the delicate petals of your digital artwork, you will pass through charming local spots like Shinmori Central Park and Furuichinishikita Park, where the community’s quiet daily life meets pockets of refreshing greenery. Geographically, this area consists of well-developed flatlands, providing an excellent, level canvas for runners and walkers to focus on their creative footprints.
The highlight of this journey is undoubtedly Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park, the site of the 1990 International Garden and Greenery Exposition. This park remains a living monument to nature, and in spring, it transforms into a stunning sea of cherry blossoms. This 13km circuit offers a beautiful fusion of the spiritual history at Kongoji and the modern legacy of the World Expo. Whether you are a dedicated runner or a casual explorer, following this path will allow you to experience the authentic “Shitamachi” (downtown) spirit of Osaka while honoring the fleeting beauty of the season. Lace up your shoes and bring a bloom to your map in the city of flowers and cranes!
