GPS art of a dragon drawn at one of Yamagata’s most popular Hatsumode spot🐉✨
This GPS art course allows visitors to draw the Chinese character for “dragon (龍),” the animal of the Chinese zodiac, in the area around Zenpoji Temple, a Hatsumode temple in Yamagata Prefecture that has a connection with dragons.
Zenpoji Temple in Tsuruoka City is known as a temple with a guardian deity of dragons. The name of the temple is “Ryutakusan” and its principal deity is the Yakushi Nyorai (Medicine Buddha). At Zempoji, after praying in the Ryujin Hall, an “Omizutori Ceremony” is held in which water from melting snow that springs up behind the hall is drawn. This omizutori is a token of the protection of Ryujin-sama.
Since 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, Zempoji Temple may become a popular Hatsumode spot. Please try it as a first visit to the temple to avoid the density 🐉✨.
