GPS art of a dragon drawn at one of Mie’s most popular Hatsumode spot🐉✨
This GPS art course allows visitors to draw the Chinese character for the Chinese zodiac animal “dragon (龍)” in the area around Matsuokannon-ji Temple, a Hatsumode (New Year’s visit) spot in Mie Prefecture that has a connection with dragons.
At Matsuo-Kannon-ji Temple, located in Kusubechō, Ise City, there is a “Toko-ryujin,” a dragon figure that appears on the floorboards of the main hall. It is said that stroking this dragon deity brings good luck, and is also called “Nade Ryu” (stroking dragon). It is said to be the oldest Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) in Japan, opened by the high priest Gyoki at the beginning of the Nara period (710-794). There is an old dragon legend that a male and female dragon appeared from a pond when the main hall of the temple caught fire.
Since 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, Matsuo Kannon-ji Temple may become a popular first visit to the temple. Please try it as a sightseeing tour to avoid the density 🐉✨
