GPS art of a dragon drawn at one of Toyama’s most popular Hatsumode spot🐉✨
This GPS art course allows visitors to draw the Chinese character for the Chinese zodiac animal “dragon (龍)” around Zuiryu-ji Temple, a Hatsumode (New Year’s visit) spot in Toyama Prefecture that has a connection with dragons.
Zuiryuji Temple in Takaoka City was built by Toshitsune, the third lord of the Kaga Domain, as a family temple of Maeda Toshinaga, the second lord of the domain. The temple was named after Maeda Toshinaga’s Buddhist name, Zuiryuin, and in 1997 the temple’s gate, Buddhist temple, and Dharma hall were designated as National Treasures.
A “dragon red seal” with a picture of an auspicious “blue dragon” is distributed at the site.
Although it is a popular spot for worshippers, it is expected to be very crowded in 2024, the year of the dragon. Please try to visit as a New Year’s visit to avoid the density🐉✨
