A Snail-Shaped GPS Art Walk Around Jindai Botanical Garden and Jindaiji Temple🐌
This 10km GPS art route traces the shape of a snail through the lush surroundings of Jindai Botanical Garden and its neighboring areas in Chofu City, Tokyo. It’s a refreshing early summer walk that allows you to experience nature’s beauty alongside rich historical landmarks during the season when hydrangeas are in full bloom.
Jindai Botanical Garden is one of Tokyo’s largest plant sanctuaries, home to approximately 100,000 plants spanning around 4,800 species. In early summer, the hydrangeas take center stage, their vivid hues softening the rainy season and inviting visitors to a serene, flower-filled stroll.
Next to the garden is Jindaiji Temple, one of Tokyo’s oldest temples, said to date back to the Nara period. A clear stream flows through its grounds, and the area is renowned for its handmade soba noodles—known as “Jindaiji Soba.” The charming streets around the temple preserve the feel of old Edo, offering both cultural depth and culinary delight.
