🐦 Preserving Life in Zoorasia’s Forest: A 6km Ptarmigan GPS Art Trail 🐦
Asahi Ward in Yokohama is a lush green oasis characterized by the rolling terrain of the Tama Hills. This 6km GPS art course takes you on a creative journey to sketch a Ptarmigan (Raicho) around a site of immense ecological importance: the Yokohama City Animal Breeding Center. Situated adjacent to the famous Zoorasia Yokohama Zoological Gardens, this area serves as a vital sanctuary for biodiversity.
While the Breeding Center itself is a “backyard” facility not usually open to the public, the surrounding trails offer a refreshing escape into nature. The Ptarmigan, a “Messenger of the Gods” in Japanese folklore, typically inhabits the harsh alpine environments of the Northern Alps. Significantly, the Yokohama City Animal Breeding Center is a key player in the national program to conserve and breed the endangered Japanese Ptarmigan. Drawing this bird here is a poetic tribute to the scientists and keepers working to ensure the species’ survival.
The route features gentle undulations typical of Yokohama’s hilly geography. As you trace the lines of the bird, you will pass the tranquil Asahi Chinju Hachiman Shrine, a local spiritual spot nestled in the woods. The proximity to Zoorasia adds a sense of adventure, with the sounds and scents of distant habitats drifting through the trees.
This 6km circuit is perfect for a brisk walk or jog, offering a blend of physical engagement and environmental awareness. By the time the digital Ptarmigan appears on your screen, you will have connected with the hidden efforts behind wildlife preservation. Lace up your shoes and take a walk for the future of our planet in the green heart of Asahi Ward!
