GPS art of a dragon drawn at one of Kumamoto’s most popular Hatsumode spot🐉✨
This GPS art course allows visitors to draw the Chinese character for “dragon (龍),” the animal of the Chinese zodiac, around Gakuryoryu Jinja Shrine, a spot in Kumamoto Prefecture that is associated with dragons.
Gakuryoryu Jinja Shrine, located in Minami Ward, Kumamoto City, is known as a god of academic success and business prosperity, and is visited by local students preparing for entrance exams and business owners. It is said that the shrine was founded in the late Heian period (794-1185) and was dedicated to Sugawara Michizane. The shrine developed into the current Gakuryu Shrine during the Kamakura period (1185-1333), and was revered by the lords of the Kumamoto domain during the Edo period (1603-1868).
Since 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, Gakuryoryu Shrine may become a popular Hatsumode spot. Please try it as a sightseeing tour to avoid the density 🐉✨
