🌸 Sakura course in Uki: Exploring ancient tombs and hills 🌸
Located in the heart of Kumamoto Prefecture, Uki City offers a fascinating blend of ancient history and natural beauty. This 12km GPS art course invites you to draw a grand cherry blossom (Sakura) centered around Okadake Park. Situated on a hill 60 meters above sea level, the park is a celebrated Sakura spot featuring Somei-Yoshino and Yamazakura trees. Its 80-meter long slider and panoramic views make it a favorite destination for families and nature lovers alike.
As you trace the petals of your artwork, you will journey back in time. The area is rich in archaeological significance, home to the Matsubase Otsuka Ancient Tomb and the Ugatake Ancient Tomb. These sites, along with the historic Matsubase Shrine, tell the story of a region that has been a center of power and culture since the Kofun period. The geographical features of the hills provided a strategic advantage for ancient rulers, and today they offer a refreshing challenge for runners and walkers.
The course also weaves through the modern heart of the city, passing Uki City Hall and Matsubase Station. This allows participants to experience the authentic daily rhythm of Uki while enjoying its scenic landscapes. Whether you are sprinting past ancient mounds or taking a steady stroll through the blossoming park, this 12km journey is a unique way to celebrate spring. Lace up your shoes, feel the historical breeze of Kumamoto, and let your digital map bloom with a beautiful cherry blossom!
