Run Through a City of Learning and History! “Koganei” GPS Art Course✨
Located in the heart of Tokyo’s Tama area, Koganei City is now home to a brand-new GPS art course where you can draw the city’s name, “Koganei,” over a total distance of 17 kilometers. Beginning near Koganei City Hall and the Koganei Miyaji Musical Instrument Hall, the course connects major hubs like JR Musashi-Koganei Station and Higashi-Koganei Station, while also passing through the vibrant academic landscapes of Tokyo Gakugei University and Hosei University.
The name “Koganei” is said to derive from a local legend: a pure spring so valuable it was likened to “golden water.” Even today, the lush greenery and waterside paths of the Tamagawa Aqueduct run through the city, offering a tranquil retreat that has been beloved since the Edo period. In spring, Koganei becomes especially lively as visitors flock to see the famous cherry blossoms known as “Koganei Sakura.”
This area is also a hub of culture and learning. With multiple universities and research institutions, Koganei thrives as a center of intellectual exchange. Meanwhile, venues like the Koganei Miyaji Musical Instrument Hall enrich daily life with music and cultural events, making the city a place where education, history, art, and nature harmoniously coexist.
Completing this GPS course, you’ll see the word “Koganei” drawn across your running map—a unique and artistic way to experience the city’s charm. Whether you are a local resident or a visitor, this journey offers a fresh perspective on the city and a memorable creative adventure.
