GPS art of a dragon drawn at one of Shimane’s most popular Hatsumode spot🐉✨
This GPS art course allows visitors to draw the Chinese character for “dragon (龍),” the animal of the Chinese zodiac, around Izumo Taisha, a Hatsumode (New Year’s visit) spot in Shimane Prefecture that is associated with dragons.
The dragon god of Izumo-taisha is the messenger god of Okuninushi no Okami, the god of sea serpents. The dragon is believed to be the guardian god of fire and water, and the serpent is believed to be the guardian god of earthly disasters. In the lunar calendar month of October, the “Dragon and Snake God Festival” is held at the shrine as an emissary god to lead the gods.
Since the year 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, Ryujakejin may become a popular place for Hatsumode (New Year’s visit). Please try it as a sightseeing trip to avoid the crowds 🐉✨
