Happy New Year⛩️
In Japan, it’s customary to visit shrines during the New Year. This GPS art piece depicts a treasure ship map while during the Seven Gods of Fortune in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. You can follow any route you like for the Seven Gods tour. This GPS art map is an improved version of last year’s unfinished sketch.
To make the route more compact, I decided to start from Suitengu Shrine, whose gates close in the evening, and visit the other shrines after. Also, I refined the treasure character on the ship’s sail to complete it.
◎Treasure Ship Pilgrimage Route Start north of Kayabashi Bridge → Suitengu Shrine (Benzaiten) → Chanoki Shrine (Hoteison) → Matsushima Shrine (Ōkuninushi) → Suehiro Shrine (Baramanten) → Kasama Inari Shrine (Jurojin) → Sugimori Shrine (Ebisu) → Kōami Shrine (Fukurokuju) → Goal!

Suehiro Shrine, dedicated to Bishamonten

Koami Shrine, dedicated to Benzaiten

Drawing GPS art on mountain trails is difficult because there are limited routes, but the feeling of accomplishment when you finish is all the more impressive. Precisely because it’s a mountain, I try to create interesting GPS art while staying on the trails and footpaths. Since I began making my GPS art, I’ve been rediscovering the greatness of the Nazca people.
