GPS art of a snake drawn at one of Yokohama’s most popular Hatsumode spot🐍✨
This GPS art course takes you to the area around Jakkotsu Jinja, a Yokohama’s spot associated with snakes, where you can draw a snake, the animal of the Chinese zodiac.
Jakkotsu Jinja in Kohoku-ku, Yokohama, was originally dedicated to the repose of a giant snake, and was rebuilt in 2001 by local volunteers. The origin of the name “Jakkotsu” is said to derive from the fact that a shrine was built by burying the bones of a giant snake. The former deity of the shrine is unknown, but it is believed to have been based on a belief in stones and snakes. Today, the shrine is well-loved by local residents, and an annual festival is held there.
Since 2025 is the Year of the Snake, Jakkotsu Jinja may become a popular spot. Please try it during your first visit to the temple🐍✨
