🐎 Horse-Shaped GPS Art Walk Through Central Hiroshima 🗻
This GPS art walking course offers a meaningful way to explore Hiroshima while creating the shape of a horse—the zodiac animal—on your GPS map. Covering approximately 20 kilometers, the course combines urban scenery, historical landmarks, parks, and lively shopping areas, making it ideal for a New Year walk filled with reflection and discovery.
The starting point, WINS Hiroshima, is an off-track betting facility operated by the Japan Racing Association (JRA). Opened in 1984 as the first JRA off-track facility in the Chugoku region, its name combines “WINning Spot” and “Weekend IN Spot,” symbolizing a place where people gather to enjoy racing and leisure.
The course passes the Former Hiroshima Branch of the Bank of Japan and Hiroshima City Hall before reaching the Japanese Red Cross Hiroshima Hospital & Atomic-bomb Survivors Hospital, a site closely tied to the city’s postwar history. Hijiyama Park provides a peaceful green space with panoramic views of the city, offering a moment of rest during the long walk. Fukuromachi Park and Hondori Shopping Street add a lively atmosphere, showcasing Hiroshima’s modern urban culture, while the Danbara area highlights ongoing redevelopment and everyday local life.
