🌸 Castle Ruins and Snow Country Spring: A 10km Sakura Trail in Shinjo 🌸
Shinjo City, Yamagata, is a historic castle town formerly ruled by the Tozawa clan and famously home to the UNESCO-listed Shinjo Matsuri. This 10km GPS art course invites you to celebrate the arrival of spring by sketching a grand Sakura (cherry blossom) through Mogami Park, the former site of Shinjo Castle. The park, characterized by its ancient moats and stone walls, transforms into a pale pink sanctuary as 300 cherry trees reflect beautifully on the water’s surface, signaling the end of the long northern winter.
The journey highlights the city’s rich cultural identity. Starting near Shinjō Station, the gateway to the Mogami region, you will navigate past Colasse Shinjo toward the Shinjo Furusato History Center. Here, the magnificent festival floats offer a glimpse into a tradition spanning over 250 years.
