🌸 Historic Chizu-shuku and riverside sakura: A 5km course for history and flavors 🌸
Located in the mountainous southeastern region of Tottori, Chizu Town is celebrated as a sanctuary of high-quality cedar. This 5km GPS art course invites you to draw a cherry blossom (Sakura) through Chizu-shuku, which once flourished as the largest post town on the Inaba Kaido road. The highlight of the journey is the Chizu Riverbank, where 180 Somei-Yoshino trees line the Sendai River for 1.3 kilometers, creating a breathtaking tunnel of pale pink blossoms that reflect beautifully on the clear water.
As you trace the petals of your art, you will be immersed in an atmosphere where Edo-period nostalgia meets the town’s famous cedar culture. The course leads you past the Ishitani Residence, a National Important Cultural Property, and other grand wooden structures. The scent of fresh cedar wood permeates the air as you walk along historic stone-paved streets and past traditional storehouses.
A trip to Chizu is not complete without savoring its traditional local cuisine. Along the course, you can find cozy restaurants serving “Kakinoha-zushi” (sushi wrapped in persimmon leaves) and seasonal mountain vegetable dishes that represent the bounties of the surrounding forests. These flavors offer a delicious glimpse into the region’s long-standing food heritage.
This 5km course is mostly flat and easy to navigate, making it perfect for a leisurely spring stroll. By following this trail, you connect the dots between the town’s majestic riverside scenery and its vibrant cultural history. Feel the refreshing breeze from the mountains and let your creativity bloom as you finish your floral masterpiece on the historic soil of Chizu.
