🐎 Hitomi Shrine Horse Walk 🗻
This 11 km GPS-art course lets you draw a “horse” around Hitomi Shrine in Kimitsu, Chiba—perfect for a refreshing New Year outing. Hitomi Shrine is known for its powerful summer ritual in which a male sacred horse, guided by three handlers, charges up the steep stone steps and bursts into the hilltop worship hall. This centuries-old tradition prays for both rich harvests and plentiful catches, reflecting the dual coastal–agricultural heritage of the region.
The course begins at the shrine and loops across both the east and west banks of the Koito River, passing by Aohori Station and the area around Futtsu Star Lanes. The river flows into Tokyo Bay, shaping a calm landscape of tidal flats and plains that has long supported fishing and farming communities.
With gentle terrain and scenic riverside views, the 11 km walk gradually forms the outline of a horse as your GPS captures the mane, back and legs. Enjoy a unique New Year experience that blends tradition, nature and creativity in a single memorable route.
