A Journey to Draw “HOT”: Experience Hamamatsu’s Record-Breaking Summer✨
Known as the “City of Music” and the “Little Kyoto of Enshū,” Hamamatsu in Shizuoka Prefecture made history on August 17, 2020, when the area around its meteorological observatory recorded a blistering 41.1°C — then the highest temperature ever in Japan. This special 6km walking course commemorates that heat by letting you draw the word “HOT” as GPS art.
Starting near the observatory, you’ll trace each letter — H, O, and T — at a leisurely pace, turning the summer heat into part of the adventure. Along the way, you’ll encounter vestiges of Hamamatsu’s past: place names dating back to its castle town days, historic sites tied to Tokugawa Ieyasu, charming retro shopping streets, and cultural venues celebrating the city’s proud tradition of musical craftsmanship.
