Challenge the Heat: “HOT” GPS Art in Ōta City, Gunma✨
Ōta City in Gunma Prefecture is known as one of Japan’s hottest places in summer. This 4 km GPS art course, designed around the east side of Ōta Station, draws the word “HOT” — a fitting tribute to the city’s intense heat. The route is short, making it ideal for early morning or evening walks.
Located at the northwestern edge of the Kanto Plain, Ōta has a low elevation and a basin-like geography, which contributes to its high summer temperatures. The city is traversed by the Watarase River, a part of the Tone River system, and historically thrived as a key river transport hub. During the Sengoku period, it served as the seat of the Yura clan, and later became a center of modern industry as the company town for Nakajima Aircraft Company (now SUBARU).
Along the route, walkers will encounter a mix of historical architecture and industrial heritage sites. Experience the sizzling charm of Ōta through this unique “HOT” GPS artwork walk.
