“HOT” GPS Art Walk Through the Heart of a Science City✨
This is a 6km GPS art course in which the word “HOT” is drawn by walking through the area north of Tsukuba Station in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Designed for the hot summer season, this short route allows walkers to enjoy both the futuristic cityscape and the lush greenery that make Tsukuba so unique. The relatively short distance makes it a comfortable and enjoyable course even during warmer weather.
Tsukuba Station, the terminal station of the Tsukuba Express (TX) line, opened in 2005 and sits at the core of the Tsukuba Science City. The northern side of the station features a concentration of national research institutes and universities, including the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). As a planned city, the area boasts well-organized streets, modern architecture, and serves as one of Japan’s most prominent hubs of academic and scientific research.
Interspersed among the cityscape are green spaces and walking paths, seamlessly blending nature with urban development. As you walk to form the letters of “HOT,” take the opportunity to explore and rediscover the charms of this innovative and verdant city.

He is the only Japanese person to be featured in a Google documentary as an innovator. He is fascinated by the idea of drawing with GPS and has published more than 2,500 works.
