GPS art of a dragon drawn at one of Nara’s most popular Hatsumode spot🐉✨
This GPS art course allows visitors to draw the Chinese character for “dragon (龍),” the animal of the Chinese zodiac, around Tatsuta Taisha Shrine, a Hatsumode (New Year’s visit) spot in Nara Prefecture that has a connection with dragons.
Tatsuta Taisha Shrine in Misato Town is home to Hakuryu Shrine, the god of marriage and protection against misfortune. From the end of the Edo period (1603-1868) to the end of the Meiji period (1868-1912), the shrine was worshipped as a white snake that appeared in the shrine grounds. Tatsuta Taisha Shrine has long been known as the “God of Wind” and enshrines Ama-no-Mihashira-no-Mikoto and Kuni-no-Mihashira-no-Mikoto, both of whom are responsible for wind. In recent years, the shrine has been worshipped as a place of spiritual practice for safe voyaging, as it prevents wind-related difficulties.
Since 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, Tatsuta Taisha may become a popular Hatsumode spot. Please try it as a sightseeing tour to avoid the density 🐉✨
