GPS art of “YU” to be drawn in one of the most famous hot springs in Kanto Region✨
A course of “ゆ (hotspring)” GPS art drawing on Kinugawa Onsen.
The hot springs were discovered in 1691, and during the Edo period, only feudal lords and Buddhist priests on pilgrimages to Nikko were allowed to use the hot springs. After the Meiji period (1868-1912), a hydroelectric power plant was constructed upstream of the Kinugawa River, and as the water level dropped, a new group of hot springs was discovered. With the civilization’s enlightenment, the area developed as a hot spring resort.
During the high growth period of the Showa period (1926-1989), the development of large-scale lodging facilities progressed, but declined due to the collapse of the bubble economy and the Great East Japan Earthquake. Currently, a change in operations and regional branding is underway. Atami’s success story is attracting attention, making it one of the hot spring resorts to keep an eye on in the future.
