Turn Up the Heat! Draw “HOT” with a 4km GPS Walk in Ichinoseki✨
On July 22, 2025, Ichinoseki in Iwate Prefecture recorded its highest temperature on record—an intense 38.3°C. To commemorate this unforgettable day of heat, we’ve designed a unique 4km GPS art walk that draws the word “HOT.”
The course is set around the Ichinoseki Meteorological Observatory. At just 4km, it’s short enough to enjoy even during the hot summer season, while still capturing the excitement of GPS art. As you trace the streets and riverside paths, the letters “H-O-T” take shape on your map, symbolizing both the scorching heat and the creativity that transforms it into art.
Ichinoseki is more than just a city of summer extremes. Historically, it served as the gateway to Hiraizumi, the cultural heart of the Oshu Fujiwara clan, and its streets still carry the charm of a castle town. The region is also known for its distinctive “mochi culture,” where rice cakes are celebrated in countless variations and dishes. Walking this course offers not just an artistic experience but also a connection to the city’s deep cultural roots and traditions.
Turn the heat of Ichinoseki’s record-setting summer into your own personal masterpiece. Step outside, walk the route, and let “HOT” shine brightly on your GPS map!
