🎃 A Ghostly Stroll in Takamatsu! Halloween GPS Art 👻
As Halloween approaches, why not enjoy a special GPS art experience in Takamatsu? This 13km route traces a delightful “ghost” across the map, centered around the north–south flowing Gobo River, passing by Ritsurin Station, Ritsurin-Koen Station, and Kawaramachi Station, while circling Takamatsu Prison, Koyasan Sanuki Betsuin Temple, and Hiraishii Shrine.
The journey begins near Ritsurin Station. Following both the JR and Kotoden railway lines, you’ll encounter the breathtaking landscape of Ritsurin Garden, then dive into the bustle of Kawaramachi’s lively shopping arcades. Along the way, the quiet presence of temples, shrines, and the historic Takamatsu Prison provides a serene counterbalance, making this walk a rich blend of contrasting cityscapes.
The Gobo River, once heavily polluted by industrial wastewater, has undergone extensive purification and redevelopment, and today offers a tranquil scene where nature and urban life harmoniously coexist. Stretching 5.5km, this small river has become an essential feature of the city’s heart.
Ritsurin Garden, originally built in the Edo period as the retreat of the Matsudaira clan, is celebrated as a “garden where every step reveals a new view,” boasting elegant ponds, bridges, and landscaped hills. Nearby, Ritsurin-Koen Station, in service since 1926, continues to serve as a gateway to Takamatsu’s cultural treasures.
What makes this GPS art course even more enchanting is experiencing it at dusk or nighttime. The playful ghost design comes alive under the evening sky, blending history, natural beauty, and everyday life into a unique Halloween adventure. Whether with family or friends, this route transforms the city into a whimsical canvas—an unforgettable seasonal walk through Takamatsu.
