🌸 Sakura course in Kirishima: Where history, industry, and nature meet 🌸
Nestled in Kirishima City, Kagoshima, with breathtaking views of the Kirishima mountain range and Sakurajima, lies Shiroyama Park. This hilltop sanctuary, standing 192 meters high, is a beloved spot where 30,000 trees, including thousands of cherry blossoms, paint the landscape in spring. This 11km GPS art course invites you to weave through the Kokubu plains just south of the park, creating a magnificent “Sakura” pattern with your footsteps.
The course is a fascinating journey through time. You will encounter the Site of Kokubu Castle, a historical remnant of the samurai era, and the serene Ise Shrine, which has guarded the local community for generations. In contrast to these ancient sites, the massive Kyocera factory represents Kirishima’s role as a modern industrial leader. This blend of the old and the new defines the unique character of the Kokubu area.
Artistic inspiration also awaits at the Satsuma Tinware Crafts Museum (Iwakiri Mikodo). Here, the 300-year-old tradition of Satsuma tinware is preserved, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. Since the course primarily covers the flat terrain of the plains, it is accessible for all levels of runners and walkers.
Imagine the panoramic view from Shiroyama Park as you navigate the streets below. With the majestic mountains as your backdrop and a blooming cherry blossom appearing on your digital map, this 11km course offers a deep connection to the nature and culture of Kirishima. Lace up your shoes and make your own mark in this land of legends and innovation!
