GPS art of the place name “Shibuya” drawn in Shibuya Ward✨
This is a series of GPS art courses that draw the place name “Shibuya” in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo.
Shibuya Ward was created in 1932 through the merger of three towns: Shibuya-cho, Sendagaya-cho, and Yoyobata-cho. There are various theories as to the origin of the place name, but the most popular theory is that it is a corruption of the name “Shioya,” which was once called “Shioya” because of the seawater that used to flow into the area on the coast. Other theories include that the area was inhabited by the Shibuya clan, a local powerful family, that the name derives from the name of the Shibuya River that flows through Shibuya, and that the area was a reddish-brown (shibu-iro) valley.
You will pass through a place befitting a town of young people. Centered on the scramble crossing in front of Shibuya Station, you can tour Miyamasuzaka on the east and Dogenzaka on the west. Please try it while sightseeing in Shibuya!
