GPS art of a dragon drawn at one of Gunma’s most popular Hatsumode spot🐉✨
This GPS art course allows visitors to draw the Chinese character for “dragon (龍),” the animal of the Chinese zodiac, around Ryu-jingu Shrine, a Hatsumode (New Year’s visit) spot in Gunma Prefecture that is associated with dragons.
The Ryu-jingu Shrine is located on the bank of the Hirose River that runs through Isesaki City, and the forest around the shrine is called “Ryugu no Mori” (Dragon Palace Forest). Although Gunma Prefecture is a place without a sea, the legend of Urashima has been preserved here. A stone statue of Urashima Taro riding on the back of a turtle is placed on the shrine grounds, as the hero of this shrine’s legend was the model for Urashima Taro.
Since 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, Ryu-jingu Shrine may become a popular Hatsumode spot. Please try it as a sightseeing trip to avoid the density 🐉✨
