GPS art of a dragon drawn at one of Gifu’s most popular Hatsumode spot🐉✨
This GPS art course allows visitors to draw the Chinese zodiac animal “dragon (龍)” around Tejikarao Jinja, a Hatsumode (New Year’s visit) spot in Gifu Prefecture that has a connection with dragons.
At Tejikarao Shrine in Kakamigahara City, there are a pair of dragon statues carved on either side of the main shrine. The dragon on the west side has no balls and is in a still pose with its mouth closed; it has been out of the sun for 340 years and has survived the flaking, leaving black and green patterns on its body. It is said that Nobunaga Oda prayed for victory when he invaded Inabayama Castle (Gifu Castle). In addition to the “Yumikakezakura” and “Matobazakura” cherry trees associated with Nobunaga that remain on the shrine grounds, the main shrine is built in the Nagare-zukuri style with a cypress bark roof, and many historical sites and cultural assets remain.
Although it is a popular spot for worshippers, it is expected to be very crowded in 2024, the year of the dragon. Please try to visit as a New Year’s visit to avoid the density🐉✨
