🐎 Horse-Shaped GPS Art Walk Through Takamatsu 🗻

This GPS art walking course in Takamatsu City allows walkers to draw the shape of a horse—the zodiac animal—by tracing a carefully designed course through suburban streets, shopping areas, and tranquil waterside scenery. Ideal for New Year strolls or mindful walks, the course combines movement, history, and digital creativity into one unique experience.

The starting point, WINS Takamatsu, is an off-track betting facility operated by the Japan Racing Association (JRA) and serves as a familiar landmark for local horse racing fans. The course passes YouMe Town Takamatsu, one of Shikoku’s largest shopping complexes, before reaching the Ota Racecourse Monument, which commemorates a former regional racecourse and preserves the area’s connection to horse racing culture.

From there, the course leads through calm residential neighborhoods near the Kagawa Rehabilitation Center and toward a series of ponds, including Okino Pond, Ota Pond, and Sanjo Pond. These ponds reflect the geographical characteristics of the Sanuki Plain, an area with relatively low rainfall where irrigation ponds have played a vital role in agriculture for centuries. As a result, water management and pond landscapes have become an essential part of local life and history.

Walking along these ponds offers a peaceful contrast to the urban environment, with open skies and still water creating a relaxing atmosphere. Takamatsu itself is known as a gateway city to Shikoku and a place where modern life blends seamlessly with historical and natural elements.

The horse, symbolizing strength, progress, and forward motion, fits perfectly with the spirit of a New Year walk in this setting. By completing the course, participants leave behind a bold horse-shaped trace on their GPS map—turning an ordinary walk into a memorable piece of digital art. This GPS art course is an excellent way to explore Takamatsu’s lesser-known landscapes while enjoying fitness, sightseeing, and cultural discovery.
