🐎 Ride for Victory and Fortune! “Horse” GPS Art around Shimouma Shrine 🗻
Located west of Kumamoto Castle, Shimouma Shrine derives its name from a Sengoku-era legend — a warlord’s horse suddenly stopped before the shrine, only moving again after he dismounted and prayed, leading him to victory in battle.
The 6km course traces the western edge of Kumamoto Castle, crossing lively streets lined with tramways and the Kyushu Shinkansen line. Along the way, runners pass landmarks such as the giant camphor trees of Fujisakidai and Shimazaki Park, blending urban rhythm with natural serenity.
