Snail GPS Art in Kitayama Park, a Famous Spot for Irises and Hydrangeas🐌
This approximately 5km GPS art course lets you draw a cute “snail” by walking around Kitayama Park in Higashimurayama City, Tokyo, and its surrounding area. The route guides you through lush greenery and seasonal flowers, gradually forming the shape of a snail on your map as you walk. In early summer, the park is especially beautiful with blooming hydrangeas and irises, making it a perfect course for the rainy season.
Kitayama Park is a natural park near Lake Tama, featuring a vast area of about 8,000 square meters with wetlands and well-preserved nature. Historically, this area dates back to the Edo period, when it was used as an irrigation pond for agriculture. Today, it retains the nostalgic atmosphere of a traditional satoyama (village forest). The park is also famous as the venue for the annual “Higashimurayama Iris Festival,” held every June, where around 8,000 irises of 100 varieties bloom and attract many visitors.
In addition, the park is known for its beautiful hydrangeas, which create a stunning contrast with the wetlands, offering a magical scenery. Wooden boardwalks and walking paths are well-maintained throughout the park, allowing visitors to enjoy a leisurely stroll while admiring the seasonal flowers.
