Located in Nishigahara, Kita City, Tokyo, Kyu-Furukawa Gardens is a historical site where a Western-style garden and a traditional Japanese garden harmoniously coexist. Originally built as the residence of Meiji-era statesman Munemitsu Mutsu, the estate later came under the ownership of the Furukawa zaibatsu (conglomerate). The garden features a Western-style mansion, a rose garden, and a strolling-style Japanese garden. The rose garden, in particular, is renowned for its spectacular blooms in spring and autumn.
During the rainy season, hydrangeas beautifully bloom in the Japanese garden area, creating a serene, picturesque atmosphere. The combination of hydrangeas with traditional elements such as stone lanterns, ponds, and waterfalls evokes the quintessential charm of early summer in Japan.
This GPS art course traces a charming “snail” shape around Kyu-Furukawa Gardens, weaving through the surrounding areas of Nishigahara and Kaminakazato. The route is approximately 4 kilometers—perfect for a leisurely stroll.
