A GPS art course where you can draw a snake, the animal of the Chinese zodiac, around Kanazawa Shrine, a Hatsumode (New Year’s visit) spot in Ishikawa Prefecture.
At Kanazawa Shrine in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, the White Snake Dragon God (commonly known as “Hakujasan”) is widely worshipped as a god of protection against fire, luck in money, and prosperity in business. The pair of male and female “white fire snakes” are said to have the power to protect against fire and natural disasters. Hanging scrolls depicting the white snake were distributed to households during the feudal era, and even today the shrine is deeply revered by people involved in commerce and the water trade. On the first day of every month, the sacred body is opened to pray for good luck and protection from bad luck, and on New Year’s Day, both the male and female bodies are specially opened.
