The snow that fell until yesterday turned Akita City into a white canvas. This year too, a zodiac ground painting is being created in Akita. This painting covers Yassan’s sketch.
Until recently, Akita has been plagued by bear incidents, leading to fewer tourists. The riverside area in Akita City’s downtown district has been as deserted as it was during the COVID-19 pandemic. Next year is forecast to be a bumper crop for beech nuts, so while next year may be good, urgent measures are needed for the poor harvest expected the year after. Interestingly, while bears have been appearing in villages this year, there was no sign of them in the mountains. Additionally, the northern part of the prefecture suffered flood damage this year, and even in my own rice fields, the rice yield was low.
This GPS art is created with prayers for a good year next year, free from disasters.

Drawing GPS art on mountain trails is difficult because there are limited routes, but the feeling of accomplishment when you finish is all the more impressive. Precisely because it’s a mountain, I try to create interesting GPS art while staying on the trails and footpaths. Since I began making my GPS art, I’ve been rediscovering the greatness of the Nazca people.
