🌸 Floating in Pink Mists: An 11km Sakura Art Trail in Nihonmatsu Castle 🌸
Nihonmatsu City in Fukushima Prefecture is a place where history resides under what poet Kotaro Takamura called the “true sky.” This 11km GPS art course invites you to celebrate the season by sketching a grand Sakura (cherry blossom) through Kasumigajo Castle Park, one of “Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots.” The castle earned its name, “Mist Castle,” because its 2,500 cherry trees make the fortress appear to float in a sea of pink clouds when in full bloom.
The journey highlights the Nihonmatsu Castle Information Center (Jo-ho-kan), where you can delve into the city’s feudal past and the legacy of the Nihonmatsu Youth Corps. As you trace the delicate petals of your digital artwork, you will visit the spiritual heart of the city, Nihonmatsu Shrine, famous for its historic Lantern Festival, and the peaceful grounds of Rengeji Temple. The route also passes the Nihonmatsushi Concert Hall, blending modern cultural life with ancient surroundings.
Geographically, the terrain offers the characteristic undulations of a mountain castle town situated in the foothills of Mount Adatara. The hills provide refreshing physical engagement and reward you with stunning vistas of the surrounding peaks and the Abukuma River valley. This 11km circuit is more than just a walk; it is a creative pilgrimage through a land of samurai spirit and seasonal elegance. By the time the digital Sakura blooms on your smartphone screen, you will have connected the dots between Nihonmatsu’s stoic heritage and the vibrant joy of spring. Lace up your shoes and let your creativity bloom in the “Mist Castle” of the north!
