🐎 Horse-Shaped GPS Art Walk Around Shinjuku 🗻
This GPS art course offers a creative way to enjoy New Year walks and sightseeing in Shinjuku while drawing the zodiac animal “Horse” on your GPS map. Starting from WINS Shinjuku, the course forms a dynamic horse-shaped design over approximately 10 kilometers, weaving through shrines, parks, and some of Tokyo’s most vibrant urban districts.
WINS Shinjuku is an off-track betting facility operated by the Japan Racing Association (JRA). Conveniently located near JR Shinjuku Station and Shinjuku-sanchome Station, it serves as an accessible starting point in one of Japan’s busiest city centers. The surrounding area is constantly alive with people, culture, and movement—an ideal setting for an energetic GPS art walk.
The course passes Hanazono Shrine, long revered as Shinjuku’s guardian shrine and a popular destination for New Year prayers. Walk past Taishoji Temple, which preserves traces of Edo-period history, and explore unique attractions such as the Samurai Museum and the Ninja Trick House. The course also takes you through Shinjuku Golden-Gai, famous for its narrow alleys and nostalgic nightlife atmosphere.
Despite its urban density, Shinjuku offers pockets of greenery that provide balance and relaxation along the way. Shinjuku City Shinjuku Park, Hanazono West Park, and Tomihisa Sakura Park allow walkers to slow their pace and enjoy a quieter side of the city. These green spaces make the 10km course comfortable and varied, even for casual walkers.
Historically, Shinjuku developed from a post town along the Koshu Kaido highway into a modern commercial and cultural hub. Today, skyscrapers, traditional temples, entertainment districts, and residential neighborhoods coexist in a uniquely layered landscape. This contrast adds depth to the horse-shaped GPS art, symbolizing strength, movement, and progress.
Perfect for New Year shrine visits or urban exploration, this horse-themed GPS art course transforms a walk through Shinjuku into a memorable creative experience. The completed horse shape on your GPS map becomes a lasting digital souvenir of your journey through one of Tokyo’s most dynamic districts.
