🐎 Horse-Shaped GPS Art Walk Around Shibuya 🗻

This GPS art course offers a unique way to combine New Year shrine visits with urban exploration by drawing the zodiac animal “Horse” across Shibuya. Starting from WINS Shibuya, the approximately 9-kilometer course forms a dynamic horse-shaped design while guiding walkers through some of Tokyo’s most iconic districts.

WINS Shibuya has long served as an off-track betting facility operated by the Japan Racing Association (JRA). Currently closed due to a large-scale redevelopment project, it is scheduled to reopen in autumn 2031 with a renewed concept featuring paid seating such as the Excel Floor. Walking this course now allows visitors to experience Shibuya at a meaningful turning point in its history.

The course passes Konno Hachimangu Shrine, one of Shibuya’s oldest shrines and a popular spot for New Year prayers, associated with Minamoto no Yoritomo. From there, walkers visit world-famous landmarks including the Hachiko Statue and the Shibuya Scramble Crossing. The course also weaves through cultural and artistic areas such as Shibuya Hikarie, NHK Hall, the Shoto Museum of Art, and Yoyogi Park.

Shibuya is known for its distinctive topography, shaped by valleys and hills, which played a key role in its development from rural land in the Edo period to a modern center of fashion, youth culture, and media. The frequent slopes and elevation changes add depth and movement to the GPS art, enhancing the powerful image of the horse.

Balancing energetic city scenes with quiet green spaces, this 9km course is accessible yet engaging for a wide range of walkers. Completing the course reveals a bold horse figure on your GPS map—a digital keepsake symbolizing strength, progress, and a fresh start for the New Year. It is an ideal choice for those seeking a creative and memorable way to explore Shibuya.
