GPS art of the place name “Satte” drawn in Satte City✨
This is a series of GPS art courses that draw the place name “Satte” in Satte City, Saitama.
There are two theories as to the origin of the name of Satte. The first theory is that it is a variation of the Ainu word “Sottekku,” meaning “a narrow river with dry water. The second theory is that the name is derived from “Satsutengashima,” which is written in an ancient document.
The town prospered since the Edo period (1603-1868) as an inn town, Sattejuku, located at the confluence of the Nikko Onari-kaido Road and the Nikko Kaido (Oshu-kaido Road), and became Satte-cho through a merger in 1889, and in 1986, it became Satte-shi. There were talks of merging with neighboring municipalities, but in the end, the town did not merge and has continued to exist on its own.
The tour will take you around the newly developed residential areas around National Route 4. You can enjoy the atmosphere of a town in the northern Kanto region adjacent to Ibaraki Prefecture. Hope you will give it a try!
