GPS art of the place name “Matsubushi” drawn in Matsubushi Town✨
This is a series of GPS art courses that draw the place name “Matsubushi” in Matsubushi Town, Saitama.
There are two theories as to the origin of the place name “Matsubushi (松伏).” One theory is that it was named after a pine tree (松) transplanted by the Ishikawa Tamibe family, who settled in Matsubushi at the end of the Middle Ages, and which had the shape of a fuse-matsu (松伏). The other theory is that the name of the place originated from the natural embankment topography (bushi: 伏) where pine trees (松) grew. 1889 saw the amalgamation of Matsubushiryo-mura, which was renamed Matsubushimura in 1956, and in 1969 it became the current Matsubushi-cho. A merger with Yoshikawa City was considered, but was abandoned in the past due to opposition from the local people.
This tour takes visitors around the residential area centering on the town hall. The area was cleared during the high-growth period, and the old-fashioned streets remain. The contrast between the two can be experienced in this work. We hope you will try it!
