Along the way, you’ll encounter views steeped in Shodoshima’s heritage—olive groves, echoes of its traditional food culture, and a maritime charm unique to the island.
Known as Japan’s “Olive Island,” Shodoshima enjoys a warm climate reminiscent of the Mediterranean and was the first place in Japan to successfully cultivate olives. The Uchinomi Bay area also carries the legacy of old salt fields and soy sauce production, as well as the gentle rhythm of fishing village life.
