Showa Kinen Park (Showa Memorial Park), located in Tachikawa City, Tokyo, is one of Japan’s premier parks, renowned for its expansive grounds and seasonal flowers. The park was established on the former site of Tachikawa Airfield, which was used as a U.S. military base after World War II, and it opened in 1983 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Emperor Showa’s reign. Spanning approximately 180 hectares, the park features a wide range of areas, including vast lawns, a traditional Japanese garden, and a boating pond.

During the rainy season, around 9,000 hydrangea plants bloom along paths known as the “Hydrangea Road,” captivating visitors with their vibrant colors. The shades of blue, purple, and white become even more vivid in the rain, offering a serene and uniquely Japanese atmosphere characteristic of the early summer months.

This GPS art course introduces a 7-kilometer route within Showa Memorial Park, where participants can create a charming snail design by walking through the park’s lush greenery. The park’s relatively flat terrain makes it accessible even for beginners.
