🐦 Through Zelkova Avenues and Cultural Parklands 🐦
Sendai City in Miyagi Prefecture, affectionately known as the “City of Trees,” blends its historic samurai heritage as Date Masamune’s feudal castle town with vibrant green avenues. At the heart of Aoba Ward lies Jozenji-dori Avenue, named after a historic temple once located here. Framed by a double canopy of lush zelkova trees adorned with bronze sculptures, the avenue hosts iconic cultural events year-round, serving as a beloved symbol of Sendai’s urban retreat.
This 7km GPS art course invites you to experience a storied landscape, weaving through leafy promenades and civic cultural hubs to sketch a Ptarmigan on your digital map.
The journey immerses you in a refreshing green environment, tracing the dappled sunlight along Jozenji-dori Avenue past the striking glass architecture of Sendai Mediatheque and the prestigious Tokyo Electron Hall Miyagi. Exploring the surrounding cultural corridor, you will encounter Talk net Hall Sendai (Sendai city center) and the sprawling natural retreat of Nishi Park (West Park). The path guides you past the administrative heritage at the Miyagi Prefectural Government Office, the lively gathering space at Kotodai Park, and the seasonal greenery of Nishikicho Park.
Featuring flat, elegant tree-lined boulevards rich in art and nature, this 7km route captures Sendai’s refined spirit. As the digital silhouette completes on your map, you are left with a memorable impression of the City of Trees.
