GPS art of a snake drawn at one of Fukushima’s most popular snake spot🐍✨
This GPS art course takes you to the area around Janohana Garden, a Fukushima’s spot associated with snakes, where you can draw a snake, the animal of the Chinese zodiac.
Janohana (Snake’s Nose), located in Motomiya City, Fukushima Prefecture, is a Japanese garden built in the Meiji era (1868-1912), and is a sightseeing spot where visitors can enjoy beautiful seasonal scenery. The origin of the name comes from a war that took place in the Tohoku region during the Heian period (794-1185), when Minamoto no Yoshiie shot an arrow at the enemy in this area that looked like a flower, hence the name “Yanohana” (“flower of arrow”). Later, this area was divided into Tamai Village and Hongu Town, and Hongu Town came to be called “Snake Flower” because of the legend of the giant snake on Mt. It is also said that the name “snake’s nose” later became the current name “Janohana (snake’s nose)” because the terrain where the mountain breaks off and continues into a basin is called “hana (nose)”.
Since 2025 is the Year of the Snake, Janohana Garden may become a popular spot. Please try it instead of a New Year’s visit 🐍✨
