🎃 Stroll Through Aizu-Wakamatsu’s Castle Town! 12km “Ghost” GPS Art Course 👻
Perfect for Halloween, a GPS art course has arrived in the historic city of Aizu-Wakamatsu! By walking a 12km route, a charming “ghost” design will appear on your map.
At the heart of the course lies Tsuruga Castle, the symbol of the Aizu domain. Renowned as an impregnable fortress, it played a dramatic role during the Boshin War in the late Edo period. Surrounding the castle, you can enjoy the seasonal beauty of Tsuruga Castle Citizens’ Park, dive into local history and culture at the Fukushima Prefectural Museum, and explore artistic and cultural activities at the Aizu-Wakamatsu City Cultural Center. Together, these landmarks create a vibrant blend of heritage and culture.
The course also takes you near Miyaizumi Meijo, a renowned sake brewery producing some of Aizu’s finest sake. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the region’s rich culinary and brewing traditions. Along the way, you’ll also pass by the remains of the astronomical observatory once located at the prestigious Nisshinkan domain school, as well as the clear-flowing Yukawa River, which nourishes the Aizu Plain. The route offers a unique harmony of history, nature, and local life.
Aizu-Wakamatsu has long been cherished for its timeless castle-town atmosphere and the sincere spirit of its people, continuing to enchant visitors from across Japan and beyond. This GPS art course allows you to immerse yourself in the legacy of samurai culture, while at the same time enjoying the playful spirit of Halloween by sketching a ghost on the map with your footsteps.
Why not create a memorable Halloween experience this year by exploring Aizu’s history, culture, and scenic beauty—while drawing a festive GPS art ghost?
