🐦 Through Castle Moats and Scenic Riverbanks: A 7km Ptarmigan in Kokura 🐦
Kitakyushu City in Fukuoka Prefecture, positioned as the northern gateway to Kyushu facing the Kanmon Straits, flourished as a prosperous samurai castle town under the Ogasawara clan during the Edo period. Today, the vibrant urban center harmoniously blends the clear waters of the Murasaki River with rich industrial and cultural traditions.
This 7km GPS art course invites you to sketch a Ptarmigan, starting from the verdant grounds of Katsuyama Park and tracing a picturesque loop through historic landmarks and riverfront trails.
The cultural journey begins inside Katsuyama Park, guiding you past key civic and artistic sites including the Kitakyushu City Museum of Peace, the Kitakyūshū Literature Museum, the Matsumoto Seicho Memorial Museum, Kitakyūshū City Hall, and Kitakyushu Soleil Hall. Leaving the park, the trail follows the embankments of the Murasaki River south past the innovative TOTO Museum. Turning west onto National Route 3, you will then head north along the Nippo Main Line to explore the railway heritage near Kokura Factory Railway Land. The final stretch turns east back toward the Murasaki River for a dramatic finish.
