🐦 Through Retro Downtown Towers, Vibrant Arcades, and Modern Heights 🐦
Shinsekai and Tennoji in Naniwa and Tennoji Wards, Osaka, represent one of the metropolis’s most colorful and vibrant districts. Established in 1912 with design inspirations drawn from Paris and New York, Shinsekai grew into a famous retro entertainment district renowned for its neon signs, kushikatsu eateries, and nostalgic Showa-era charm. Standing directly alongside this historic center is the ultra-modern skyline of Abeno, home to Abeno Harukas, one of Japan’s tallest skyscrapers.
This compact 6km GPS art course invites you to experience a storied cityscape, traversing both retro alleys and modern avenues to sketch a Ptarmigan on your digital map.
The journey immerses you in authentic Osaka energy, passing the iconic Tsutenkaku Tower at the heart of Shinsekai, along with Shinsekai Market and the nostalgic retro arcade of Janjan-Yokocho (Nanyo-dori Shopping Street). Crossing into green parklands, you will explore Tennoji Park, Tennoji Zoo, and the distinguished Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts. The path then leads past modern urban destinations including Abeno Harukas, Abeno Q’s Mall, and the major transit hub at Tennōji Station.
Featuring flat, highly walkable streets rich in local flavor, this 6km route captures Osaka’s unique, lively spirit. As the digital silhouette completes on your map, you are left with a memorable impression of this iconic district.
