This 11km GPS art course invites you to sketch a Ptarmigan, starting east of Nara Women’s University and looping across imperial mounds and majestic temple complexes.

The historical journey heads north to the Mausoleum of Emperor Shōmu, then turns east toward the sacred grounds of Todaiji Temple Kaidan Hall. Winding south past Tamukeyama Hachimangu, the route skirts the Manyo Botanical Gardens and Kataoka Bairin to reach the picturesque Ukimido Pavilion on Sagiike Pond. Heading west near the The Garden of the Former Daijyo-in Temple and Sarusawa Pond, the trail explores Nanen-do and the grand pagoda of Kohfuku-ji Temple. After weaving past the bustling Higashimuki Shopping Street, Kintetsu-Nara Station, and the Nara Prefectural Museum of Art, the final stretch guides you past Yoshikien Garden and Isuien Garden before entering Todaiji Temple through the monumental Nandaimon Gate.
