GPS Art Drawn a Snail in the Lush Greenery of Tamagawa🐌
A new 10km GPS art course in the shape of a snail now winds its way through Tamagawadai Park in Ōta City, Tokyo, nestled along the banks of the Tama River. The route makes full use of the natural elevation changes created by the river terrace, offering walkers both a satisfying challenge and breathtaking views.
Tamagawadai Park is located in a historically rich area dotted with burial mounds from the Kofun period. Among them is the Kamekozuka Burial Mound, over 100 meters in length, preserved along with eight other ancient tombs. The park’s trails and observation decks make the most of the undulating landscape, offering sweeping views of the Tama River and Musashi-Kosugi skyline. In early summer, the park’s renowned hydrangea garden bursts into bloom, bathing the area in vivid color.
The GPS art route loops through the park and along the banks of the Tama River, even following the Tokyu Tamagawa Line in places. It’s a route that captures the charm of Tokyo’s lesser-known natural spaces nestled between city and water. Why not rediscover the quiet beauty of early summer in Tokyo by walking this course and drawing your own snail along the way?
