GPS Art of a Snail in a Floral Paradise Surrounded by Nature in Chichibu🐌
Nagatoro Town, located at the foot of the Chichibu Mountains in western Saitama Prefecture, is a scenic area known for its rich nature and historical charm, attracting visitors throughout the four seasons. Among its highlights is Nagatoro Hana no Sato (Nagatoro California Poppy Garden), a tranquil park where seasonal flowers bloom beautifully. Especially from early June to early July, more than 3,000 hydrangeas fill the landscape with color, offering a vibrant display during the rainy season.
This GPS art course lets walkers draw a 5km-long “snail” by traveling around the park and nearby countryside paths, all while enjoying Nagatoro’s gentle terrain and picturesque rural scenery. The area features river terraces along the Arakawa River, creating a serene environment perfect for leisurely walks and nature observation.
Nagatoro has a long history as a travel destination, dating back to the Meiji era, with attractions like the Iwadatami rock formations and traditional riverboat tours. Against this backdrop of nature and culture, creating a snail-shaped GPS drawing—an emblem of rain and renewal—takes on a deeper significance.
Why not explore the lush, rainy season of Nagatoro with this seasonal art walk?
