GPS Art of a Snail Drawn at the Crossroads of Nature and Industry🐌
A new 27km GPS art route has emerged in Kuki City, Saitama, tracing the shape of a “snail” around Gongendo Park and its surrounding areas. At the heart of the course lies the iconic Gongendo Embankment, a beloved spot famed for cherry blossoms and hydrangeas. In early summer, around 16,000 hydrangea bushes of 100 varieties burst into bloom, enchanting visitors with their vibrant colors.
This route traverses a wide area straddling Kuki and Satte Cities, winding around landmarks such as Miyuki Lake, the historic Gongendo River—once bustling with Edo-period riverboats—and the nearby modern industrial zone. The GPS art of the snail symbolically weaves together the region’s natural beauty and industrial vitality, expressing the seasonal charm and diverse identity of the area.
Gongendo Park itself has a long history, combining an Edo-period embankment with Showa-era park development to create a unique space where visitors can enjoy seasonal blossoms year-round. The hydrangeas, in particular, draw crowds from across the region when they reach full bloom in June.
Though long in distance, this memorable route offers scenic variety and cultural depth—making the journey as rewarding as the image it creates.
